Football Association of Malaysia has officially confirmed that Facundo Garcés, the commanding centre-back, has joined the Malaysia national team, adding elite experience and leadership to the Harimau Malaya squad as they gear up for a crucial phase in their international journey.
The 25-year-old Argentine-born defender, who most recently played in Spain’s La Liga with Deportivo Alavés, has completed all necessary registration and eligibility requirements and is now fully cleared for selection by head coach Peter Clamovski.
“Facundo has a strong character. He’s a composed defender with a great personality and top-level experience. He’s passionate about representing Malaysia and proud to wear the national colours,” said Clamovski.
Having previously competed in Argentina’s top division before making his mark in Europe, Garcés brings a wealth of high-level footballing pedigree that is expected to significantly reinforce Malaysia’s backline.
In his first statement as a national player, Garcés expressed deep pride and excitement:
“Being part of this national team is an incredible honour.
Since my arrival, I’ve felt the warmth, unity, and genuine support from everyone.
If this is only the beginning, I can only imagine how powerful it will be when the entire nation stands behind us.
I’m ready to give my all for Malaysia.”
Garcés has already joined the national team’s training camp during the current FIFA international window and is eligible for selection in Malaysia’s upcoming AFC Asian Cup Qualifier clash against Vietnam.
