Thailand U-19 made a flying start to their ASEAN U19 Championship 2026 campaign after producing a dominant attacking display to thrash Brunei 9-0 in their Group B opener at Teladan Stadium, Medan.
The Young War Elephants showcased their superiority from start to finish, overwhelming Brunei with relentless attacking football to secure their first three points of the tournament and send an early warning to their regional rivals.
Head coach Jakraphan Panpi entrusted Siwakorn Phonsan to spearhead the attack, supported by the creative trio of Witthawat Phrao Thaisong, Itthimon Thiphanet, and captain Pichaya Kongsri.
Thailand wasted little time asserting their dominance. Just two minutes into the contest, Itthimon broke free down the flank before setting up Surachai Booncharee, whose effort narrowly missed the target.
The breakthrough arrived in the seventh minute when Itthimon capitalised on a loose ball inside the penalty area and fired home to put Thailand ahead.
The floodgates soon opened. Pattharathon Buranasuk doubled the advantage in the 24th minute with a composed finish before adding his second just two minutes later, heading home from a well-delivered corner by captain Pichaya.
The prolific forward completed his hat-trick in the 36th minute after converting Witthawat’s low cross, becoming the standout performer of the first half.
Thailand’s dominance was further rewarded before the interval when Pichaya converted from the penalty spot in the 40th minute, giving his side a commanding 5-0 lead at halftime.
Despite holding a comfortable advantage, Thailand showed no signs of easing off after the restart.
Substitute Nattakit Phosri made an immediate impact, providing an assist for Siwakorn to score Thailand’s sixth goal in the 49th minute.
Three minutes later, Siwakorn grabbed his second of the match after another attacking move orchestrated by Nattakit, extending the lead to 7-0.
The goals kept coming as substitute Kongnat Thuamthongdee joined the scoresheet in the 69th minute after reacting quickest to a defensive clearance.
Thailand completed the rout in the 89th minute when Kongnat turned provider, setting up Nattakit to cap off an outstanding team performance and seal a resounding 9-0 victory.
The emphatic result underlines Thailand’s ambitions of reclaiming regional youth supremacy and highlights the depth of talent emerging through the country’s development system.
Hat-trick hero Pattharathon stole the headlines, while Itthimon, Siwakorn, Nattakit and captain Pichaya all delivered influential performances in a ruthless attacking display.
With confidence soaring after their opening-day demolition of Brunei, Thailand now turn their attention to a crucial Group B clash against Singapore on 5 June 2026, once again at Teladan Stadium.
If this opening performance is any indication, the Young War Elephants will be among the leading contenders for the ASEAN U-19 Championship crown.
