Malaysia U19 national team ended in 4th place in this tournament after losing to the Australia national team on a penalty shoot-out scoring 3-5 after tied in 90 minutes 1-1 in the ASEAN U19 Boys Championship 2024 3rd place match at Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium, Surabaya.
Australia put Malaysia’s defense under severe pressure in the first 20 minutes, eventually taking the lead through Marcus Younis. In the second half, Malaysia focused on building attacks with short passes and created their best chance through substitute Haikal Danish, though it was thwarted by the Australian defense.
An own goal by Australian player Jade Najdovski brought Malaysia level, making it 1-1. Despite six minutes of added time, neither team could find a winner, leading to the penalty shoot-out where Australia emerged victorious.
