Malaysia U19 national team missed to final round after losing to Indonesia U19 national team scoring 1-0 in the ASEAN U19 Boys Championship 2024 semi-final at Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium, Surabaya.
Malaysia entered the match with strong momentum, having remained unbeaten in the group stage.
The quest for a goal began from the first minute, with Malaysia’s young squad dominating much of the match and putting pressure on Indra Sjafri’s team. Naim Zainudin came close to scoring, but his attempt was saved.
In the second half, Indonesia increased their efforts, leveraging the home advantage. Malaysia’s defense held strong until they were unfortunate to concede a goal from a free kick by Buffon in the penalty box.
Despite six minutes of added time, Malaysia could not find an equalizer. The match ended with a narrow 1-0 victory for Indonesia.
Malaysia will now face Australia to determine third place, while Indonesia will compete against Thailand in the final, scheduled for July 29, 2024.
