Malaysia’s professional shuttler Lee Zii Jia produced a determined performance in the qualifying rounds to secure a place in the Round of 32 at the YONEX Swiss Open 2026 after winning two tough matches.
The former All England Open Badminton Championships champion, starting from Q14 position due to the expiration of ranking protection, and showed resilience and composure as he navigated the qualifying bracket against European and Asian challengers.
Lee opened his campaign against Japan’s Minoru Koga and quickly asserted control of the match. Demonstrating sharp attacking play and excellent court coverage, the Malaysian star secured a straight-games victory 21–14, 21–10.
The result gave Lee valuable momentum heading into the decisive qualifying clash.
In the final qualifying match, Lee faced Denmark’s Ditlev Jaeger Holm in a tightly contested encounter.
Holm edged the opening game 21–17, but Lee responded strongly in the second game with improved aggression and tactical shot placement to level the match 21–19.
The deciding game saw both players exchange intense rallies before Lee maintained his composure in the closing points to seal the match 21–16, completing an impressive comeback victory 17–21, 21–19, 21–16.
With two wins in the qualifying stage, Lee successfully booked his place in the Round of 32 of the Swiss Open 2026 to face Singaporean shuttler world no.33 Jason Jia Heng Teh in tomorrow.
The victory also highlights Lee’s fighting spirit as he continues his campaign on the BWF World Tour, aiming to regain consistency and challenge for major titles this season.
