Pau Marti Vicente, head coach of Malaysia national team has made crucial adjustments to the Harimau Malaya squad for the ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2024, calling up Harith Haiqal, Haziq Aiman, and Haykal Danish ahead of the tournament scheduled from 8 December 2024 to 5 January 2025.
Harith Haiqal, a 22-year-old defender from Selangor FC, replaces Muhammad Harith Samsuri of Negeri Sembilan FC, who has been sidelined due to injury. Harith Haiqal brings versatility and composure to the backline, having already showcased his potential in domestic competitions.
Haziq Aiman, a 19-year-old goalkeeper from Johor Darul Ta’zim II, steps in for Muhammad Rahadiazli Rahalim of Terengganu FC, who is unavailable due to health concerns. Haziq’s reflexes and maturity at such a young age make him a promising addition to the squad.
As a precautionary measure, Haykal Danish, also 19, and a standout player from Selangor FC U-23, has been included in the camp. While not yet guaranteed a spot in the final squad, his call-up highlights Pau Marti’s focus on nurturing young talent and maintaining depth for any unforeseen circumstances.
The final list of 26 players for the tournament will be confirmed on Saturday, December 7, 2024, just a day before Malaysia’s opening Group A clash against Cambodia at the Olympic Stadium, Phnom Penh. The match is set to kick off the Harimau Malaya’s quest for regional glory.
Coach Pau Marti’s decision to bring in these young talents reflects his strategic approach to balancing the squad with experience and fresh energy. Harith’s defensive reliability, Haziq’s goalkeeping promise, and Haykal’s versatility will undoubtedly boost Malaysia’s depth as they aim for a strong campaign in the ASEAN Cup.
