Sabah FC earned 3 points in thier home after beating Kedah Darul Aman scoring 5-2 in the Liga Super Malaysia 2024/25 at Likas Stadium, Kota Kinabalu.
Sabah FC wasted no time asserting their dominance, as Indonesian import Saddil Ramdani converted a penalty in the second minute. The penalty was awarded after Sabah winger Gabriel Peres was brought down in the box by Kedah defender Rizal Ghazali, putting Sabah ahead from the get-go.
This quick strike intensified the match, with both teams fighting for control in a game that proved to be an exciting goal-fest.
Despite Sabah’s early momentum, the Nafuzi Zain-led Kedah side fought back valiantly. Kedah equalized just before the halftime whistle, with Brazilian defender Jose Cleylton’s header finding the net to level the score at 1-1. Cleylton’s goal injected hope into the visitors as they entered the break on equal footing.
Returning from the break with renewed intensity, Sabah FC quickly reclaimed the lead in the 48th minute, courtesy of a well-taken goal by their Brazilian striker, Joao Pedro. However, the lead was short-lived, as Kedah’s Milos Gordic capitalized on a lapse in Sabah’s defense, beating goalkeeper Damien Lim to make it 2-2 in the 62nd minute.
Refusing to be outdone, Sabah surged forward with Pedro again finding the back of the net in the 68th minute, restoring Sabah’s advantage. With the score at 3-2, Sabah continued to press, looking to put the game out of Kedah’s reach.
As Kedah struggled to contain the Sabah attack, S Kumaahran struck in the 83rd minute, extending the lead to 4-2. The home fans erupted in celebration as Sabah further solidified their lead. In extra time, Gary Steven Robat rounded off the evening’s scoring with a fifth goal, putting the result beyond doubt and securing a stylish victory for Datuk Kim Swee’s squad.
