Rafael Vitor, Brazilian centre-back, who spent five and a half influential seasons with Penang FC, has officially signed with Amazonas FC in Brazil, ending his successful stint in Malaysian football.
Vitor’s departure stirred emotions among Sang Harimau Kumbang supporters, many of whom were saddened to see the experienced defender — and former club captain — move on after establishing himself as a rock in defence and a true leader at the club.
Speculation had previously linked him with a potential move to Malaysian powerhouse Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), but Vitor ultimately opted for a homecoming.
Amazonas FC, in an official statement, welcomed back one of their former champions:
“A champion with Amazonas FC in 2019 — the club’s first-ever major title — defender Rafael Vitor returns after five and a half seasons in Malaysian football. Welcome back, Rafa.”
The move is part of Amazonas FC’s bold rebuild, with Vitor one of seven new signings unveiled by the club as they prepare for upcoming challenges in Brazilian domestic competition.
Vitor’s exit leaves a significant gap in Penang FC’s backline. In response, the club has already secured a replacement in the form of former Sri Pahang FC ironman, Stefano Brundo, signaling their intent to maintain strength at the back for the 2025/26 season.
