Luis Garcia, Chief Executive Officer of Johor Darul Ta’zim FC (JDT), unveiled the club’s intensified global mission under the royal directive of His Royal Highness Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, The Regent of Johor and owner of the club.
“His Royal Highness has decreed for the club to maximise its full potential and proudly hoist the Johor and Malaysia flags higher on a global stage — on and off the pitch,” Garcia announced.
Since becoming Malaysia’s sole representative in the AFC Champions League (ACL) Elite in 2019, JDT has stood at the forefront of elevating the nation’s football stature. Garcia underscored that the Southern Tigers have contributed the majority of Malaysia’s member association ranking points, directly enabling greater participation for other Malaysian clubs in continental competitions.
“To build on this legacy, we must not only maintain our performance but aim even higher,” said Garcia. “Our mission is to ensure increased Malaysian representation in Asia, and that begins with JDT leading the charge.”
With FIFA exploring an expanded Club World Cup format that could welcome more Asian clubs beyond just ACL winners, JDT is strategically positioning itself to become a mainstay at the highest level of global club football.
“JDT aims to consistently reach the latter stages of the ACL Elite,” Garcia explained, “to boost our Asian ranking and give Malaysia a serious chance at Club World Cup qualification.”
Garcia emphasized that this mission requires relentless effort and top-level execution—nothing less than excellence will suffice.
“Achieving this won’t be easy. Asia’s top level demands the best,” he said. “We cannot take our foot off the gas. Every aspect of our operations—from training to recruitment—must reflect our ambition.”
He also pointed to JDT’s aggressive transfer strategy ahead of the 2025/26 season as proof of the club’s determination.
Garcia concluded by reaffirming that JDT’s pursuit of international glory is not just for Johor—it’s for Malaysia.
“JDT’s success will ultimately be a success for Malaysian football. This is not just about one club’s ambition; it’s about pushing the boundaries for the entire country.”
