The Organizing Committee of the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia In collaboration with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), announced regulations for men’s football at the SEA Games 2023, requiring only players under 22 years old(U22) (born on or after 1 January 2001) and not overage players.

Prior to SEA Games 2017 in Malaysia, it was agreed to use U22 players in line with the AFC U23 Asian Cup to be played the following year. from SEA Games Including the Asian Games and the Olympic Games.
However, in 2019, the Philippines had allowed each nation to use two players over the age of majority before the last SEA Games. in Vietnam The age will be adjusted again to 23 years old and the quota can be exceeded by 3 people, because the SEA Games have to be postponed for 1 year due to the spread of COVID-19.
