With three consecutive wins, Md Shafiq Rasol of ONEXOX TKKR RACING TEAM is further fuelled for Round 8 of the PETRONAS Malaysian Cub Prix Championship, 2022.
Shafiq’s performances this season in the CP125 category have been more than satisfactory. Since the start of the year, he has showcased skills that garnered him the second spot on the podium in Round 1. Although he did not make a cut on the podium for the subsequent rounds that followed, Shafiq doubled his efforts and bagged the top spots for three races in a row in Round 5, 6 and 7.
After seven rounds in total, Shafiq now sits at the top spot in the overall standings with a total of 119 points. The Malacca born rider seems to be highly motivated to retain his position and has taken competitive strides throughout the season.
In 2021, Shafiq took a chance in the CP150 category when he made it at the top three spots overall in 2020. While he has proven his abilities and calibre in the CP125 category, Shafiq however failed to emulate the experiences for a steady result in the CP150 category. Hence, he returned to the CP125 category this season, bringing with him his expertise in handling the machine and the use of excellent strategies.
Commenting on the race, Shafiq said, “In my opinion, the Tangkak circuit is highly technical and we are working hard to find the right setup for the machine as soon as possible. I will do my best together with my teammate this weekend to obtain as many points for the team.”
“Racing at the Tangkak circuit has its pros and cons nevertheless, I aspire to achieve the best possible. It is definitely tough considering the other riders who are constantly pushing beyond the limits in doing their best but I will try my best.”
According to Alizan Thambi, team manager of ONEXOX TKKR RACING TEAM, “Our preparations are as usual. We would like to retain the momentum as we are nearing a win in the CP125 category, be it for the individual or team. For now, we will try our best to ensure that we collect as many points as possible.”
“As for Shafiq and Hafiza, we think that either one of them will take home the champion title depending on luck as well as the strategies in place for the last three races. If one of them succeeds this week at the top spot on the podium, we will be able to celebrate an early win. For our team, the premier group is in a good place and the junior group are currently placed in the top three positions. As such, we will place high importance on Shafiq and Hafiza for this week.”
