Malaysia delivered a commanding performance at the Indonesia Open 2025, with five out of nine national representatives securing their spots in the quarter-finals, held at the iconic Istora Senayan, Jakarta.
The standout display came in the men’s doubles category, where Malaysian dominance was so overwhelming that it led to all-Malaysian matchups, ultimately paving the way for Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani and Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun to advance.
Two intense all-Malaysian clashes proved the nation’s incredible depth in the men’s doubles division.
Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun came from behind to defeat Wan Arif Junaidi-Yap Roy King in three thrilling sets, 14-21, 21-11, 21-15.
Meanwhile, Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani edged past the experienced pair Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub-Tan Wee Kiong, 21-14, 16-21, 21-14.
These results reaffirm Malaysia’s growing reputation as a global powerhouse in men’s doubles.
Malaysia’s mixed doubles pairs also impressed as both entries advanced with clinical victories:
Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei outclassed Denmark’s Mads Vestergaard-Christine Busch with a dominant 21-9, 21-12 win.
Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Jemie Lai overcame the home challenge from Amri Shahnawi-Nita Violina Marwah, sealing a confident 21-12, 21-17 triumph.
With such form, both pairs are seen as strong contenders to reach the semi-finals and beyond.
Malaysia’s top women’s doubles pair, Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah, showed their class and resilience in a high-pressure match. Despite losing the first set to Indonesia’s Lanny Tria Mayasari-Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti, the Malaysians clawed back to win 18-21, 21-16, 21-17 – a result that thrilled fans and reaffirmed their credentials as title contenders.
Leong Jun Hao fell short against China’s Li Shi Feng in men’s singles, ending his campaign earlier than hoped.
In women’s doubles, promising young pair Ong Xin Yee-Carmen Ting couldn’t match the pace and power of Japan’s Rin Iwanaga-Kie Nakanishi, bowing out after a valiant fight.
