Malaysian U19 Women’s National Team kicked off their AFF U-19 Women’s Championship 2025 campaign in emphatic fashion, cruising to a 4-0 victory over Cambodia in their Group B opener.
Both sides entered the match eyeing a winning start, but it was Cameron Ng’s charges who delivered a dominant display, underlining their intent to improve on their 2023 showing.
Wearing the captain’s armband was Lauren Hoh Ruyi, a promising talent currently based in the United States, who anchored the Malayan Tigress B-19 midfield with composure and vision.
Malaysia applied early pressure, with Selangor FC striker Kaseh Carlmila Az Zahra spearheading the attack in search of an opener.
The breakthrough came in the 13th minute, as Ku Nuwairah Ku Mahadzir unleashed a powerful strike that beat Cambodian goalkeeper Srong Nas, putting Malaysia ahead.
Kaseh nearly doubled the lead in the 25th minute, only to see her attempt rattle the upright after rounding the keeper.
But redemption came swiftly. In the 38th minute, the Red and Yellow forward rifled a shot past Nas to make it 2-0, sending Malaysia into the break with a commanding lead.
After the interval, the Malaysian side showed no signs of slowing down. Their relentless attacking play was rewarded again when Ku Nuwairah netted her second goal of the match, finishing calmly after breezing past the Cambodian defence.
Cambodia made several substitutions in a bid to stem the tide, but Malaysia remained in full control.
In the 70th minute, Kaseh Carlmila capped off her standout performance by scoring Malaysia’s fourth goal, exploiting defensive lapses to slot home her second of the game.
Despite several late chances, the match ended 4-0, placing Malaysia second in Group B, behind Thailand, who dismantled Indonesia 6-0 in the group’s other match.
The Malayan Tigress B-19 now turn their attention to a crucial showdown with Thailand on 11 June, a fixture that could decide the group winner and momentum heading into the knockout stages.
