Jorge Martin delivered one of the most emotional victories of his MotoGP career after storming to victory at the Michelin Grand Prix of France 2026, leading a historic Aprilia podium lockout at Circuit Bugatti in Le Mans.
The Aprilia Racing rider returned to the top step of the podium for the first time since the 2024 Indonesian Grand Prix, overcoming a difficult 2025 campaign plagued by injuries and uncertainty to produce a masterclass performance in front of a packed French crowd.
Martin’s triumph capped off a dream weekend for Aprilia as championship leader Marco Bezzecchi secured second place, while rookie sensation Ai Ogura completed the podium in third to hand the Noale factory its first-ever MotoGP podium sweep.
The result also marked the first MotoGP podium for a Japanese rider since 2012, underlining Ogura’s remarkable breakthrough performance with Trackhouse MotoGP Team.
At the start, Bezzecchi launched brilliantly from the front row to snatch the lead heading into Turn 3, while hometown hero Fabio Quartararo briefly thrilled French fans by climbing into second place.
Pole-sitter Francesco Bagnaia dropped to fourth early on before steadily recovering pace and eventually moving into second after overtaking Pedro Acosta.
Further behind, Martin steadily built momentum after fighting through traffic. The reigning 2024 world champion methodically worked his way past rivals including Fabio Di Giannantonio before entering the podium fight during the middle stages of the race.
The race took a dramatic turn on Lap 16 when Bagnaia crashed out at Turn 3 while comfortably holding second position.
That incident immediately elevated Martin into podium contention and shifted the pressure onto Bezzecchi at the front.
Sensing an opportunity, Martin unleashed a series of blistering laps to rapidly close the gap to his teammate. By Lap 23, the Spaniard was directly on Bezzecchi’s rear wheel before producing a decisive overtaking move at Turn 3 with three laps remaining.
Once in front, Martin never looked back. The Spaniard controlled the closing laps with composure and precision to finally end his long wait for victory in dominant fashion.
While Martin and Bezzecchi battled for victory, Ogura produced another sensational late-race charge.
The Japanese rookie carved through the field with incredible pace and overtook Acosta to move into third position, securing his maiden MotoGP podium in only his rookie campaign.
Ogura’s achievement further highlighted Aprilia’s dominance at Le Mans, with all three podium finishers riding RS-GP machinery.
Martin’s victory dramatically reshaped the championship standings.
Bezzecchi still leads the championship, but his advantage has now been reduced to just one point after Martin’s stunning comeback victory.
Behind the Aprilia trio, Di Giannantonio snatched fourth place from Acosta on the final lap, while Quartararo finished sixth in front of his home supporters after a hard-fought performance.
The result confirmed Aprilia as the standout force of the weekend and reinforced Martin’s status as a genuine title contender once again after a difficult period filled with injuries and setbacks.
