David Alonso of the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team has made history by becoming the 2024 Moto3™ World Champion, securing the title in Japan after an extraordinary season marked by 10 race victories.

At just 18 years old, Alonso has etched his name into the record books as the first Colombian rider to ever win a Grand Prix world title in any class, cementing his place as one of the sport’s brightest stars.

Alonso’s journey to Moto3™ dominance began in 2019, when he first raced in the European Talent Cup, part of the prestigious Road to MotoGP™ program. His rookie season saw him finish fifth overall, with four podium finishes, hinting at the greatness to come. In 2020, Alonso claimed the European Talent Cup (ETC) title for the Aspar Team, winning five races. That same year, he made his mark in the Red Bull MotoGP™ Rookies Cup, finishing fourth overall with a debut win under his belt.

In 2021, Alonso’s trajectory continued upward as he won the Rookies Cup with six victories, solidifying his status as a rising star. His first year in the JuniorGP™ class brought two podiums, and in 2022, he achieved his first win in Valencia. These accomplishments earned him a coveted spot in the Moto3™ World Championship for 2023.

Alonso’s debut Moto3™ season in 2023 was nothing short of spectacular. It took just four races for him to secure his first Grand Prix podium, becoming the first Colombian rider to do so. His historic first victory came at Silverstone, marking Colombia’s entry onto the map of GP winners. Alonso’s dominance didn’t stop there, with subsequent wins at Barcelona, Misano, and Buriram, culminating in a third-place finish overall in his rookie season, just 30 points shy of the title.

In 2024, Alonso began the season as a clear favorite, and he did not disappoint. He set the tone with a victory in Qatar, which also made CFMOTO the first Chinese manufacturer to win a Grand Prix. Alonso’s brilliant last-lap tactics and unmatched racecraft allowed him to notch nine more victories, including a record-breaking win at the Indonesian GP, making him the rider with the most wins in Moto3™ history at 14.

The crowning moment of Alonso’s historic season came at the Japanese GP, where his stunning victory clinched his first Moto3™ World Championship. With four races still to go, Alonso’s dominance is undisputed, and his triumph is a monumental achievement for both Colombia and the MotoGP™ world.

David Alonso’s 2024 Moto3™ World Championship victory is not only a personal milestone but also a historic moment for Colombian motorsport. As the first Colombian to win a Grand Prix title, Alonso’s success is expected to inspire a new generation of riders from his homeland, shining a spotlight on the country’s growing presence in the world of motorsport.

With four races left in the season and a world title already secured, David Alonso’s future looks incredibly bright. His 2024 campaign will go down in history as one of the most dominant in Moto3™, and many are already looking ahead to his potential in Moto2™ and beyond. For now, Alonso’s name is cemented in the annals of MotoGP™ history as the 2024 Moto3™ World Champion, and his legacy is just beginning.
