Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) advanced to the quarter-finals of the Piala FA Malaysia 2025/26 with a 5-3 victory over UM-Damansara United in the second leg of the Round of 16 at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Iskandar Puteri sealing a commanding 10-3 aggregate win.
The Southern Tigers started strongly in front of their home fans. Romel Morales opened the scoring in the 3rd minute before Argentine winger Manuel Hidalgo doubled the lead five minutes later. Veteran forward Heberty then added a third in the 15th minute, putting JDT firmly in control with an eight-goal aggregate cushion from the first leg.
Despite the advantage, JDT continued to press aggressively throughout the first half, which ended 3-0 on the night.
UM-Damansara, however, showed resilience after the break. Thankgod Michael struck a stunning goal to pull one back before Anuar Ceesay capitalised on a defensive lapse to make it 3-2 by the 52nd minute.
Morales responded with his second goal of the evening in the 70th minute, but Ceesay struck again just three minutes later to complete his brace and keep the visitors within touching distance.
Although Morales missed the chance for a hat-trick from the penalty spot, he redeemed himself by scoring in the dying minutes to wrap up a thrilling contest 5-3.
The result sees JDT continue their march in the FA Cup, with Romel Morales starring as the hero with a hat-trick of goals over two legs. The Southern Tigers now turn their focus to the quarter-final stage, carrying momentum and confidence into the next round.
