Reigning MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez has officially announced that he will not compete again in the 2025 season, confirming his withdrawal from the remaining rounds as he continues to recover from a shoulder injury sustained at the IndonesianGP in Lombok.
The Ducati Lenovo Team rider was involved in a Lap 1 collision with Aprilia Racing’s Marco Bezzecchi, which left him with a fractured coracoid process and damaged ligaments in his right shoulder. Following successful surgery, Marquez has been undergoing a rigorous rehabilitation program, but both he and Ducati have agreed that a return to racing before the end of the year would be premature.
“The recovery is going well, but I have to think long-term,” said Marquez. “I want to come back at full strength — not just to ride, but to fight for victories again. The target is 2026.”
As a result, the seven-time MotoGP World Champion will also miss the Valencia Test, marking the first time in his premier-class career that he will not take part in the post-season session. The decision underscores Marquez’s commitment to ensuring his complete physical recovery ahead of a title defense next year, as he aims to capture his eighth MotoGP crown.
Despite being sidelined, Marquez assured fans that his championship celebrations are far from over. The Spaniard hinted at upcoming events to commemorate his 2025 title triumph and confirmed that he will attend the Valencia Grand Prix as a spectator, allowing him to reconnect with fans and the MotoGP paddock.
“I’ll be in Valencia to enjoy the atmosphere from the other side of the fence,” Marquez added. “The fans have been incredible this year, and I want to celebrate this championship together with them.”
