History was made at the Australian Grand Prix, as Raul Fernandez produced a flawless performance to secure his first-ever MotoGP victory — and the first win for Trackhouse MotoGP Team — in a thrilling race at Phillip Island.
The Spaniard’s breakthrough victory also made Trackhouse the final team on the grid to win a MotoGP race, while marking Fernandez’s rise from rising star to full-fledged race winner.
Starting strongly from the front row, Fernandez settled into second behind Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) in the opening laps. But when Bezzecchi served his double Long Lap penalty, Fernandez capitalized brilliantly — taking command of the race by Lap 10 and never looking back.
The 24-year-old Spaniard maintained a calm yet relentless pace, eventually crossing the line 1.4 seconds ahead of his nearest rival after leading for the final two-thirds of the Grand Prix.
It was a moment of redemption for Fernandez, who has shown flashes of brilliance throughout the season, including back-to-back Sprint podiums leading up to Phillip Island.
“This means everything,” Fernandez said post-race. “To win here and give Trackhouse their first MotoGP victory is a dream come true. The team believed in me — today, we made history together.”
Behind the winner, Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) carved through the field from P10 on the grid to finish second — capping off a brilliant ride that saw him overtake both Pedro Acosta and Alex Marquez in the final laps.
Bezzecchi, despite serving two Long Lap penalties, staged an incredible recovery to finish third, only 2.4 seconds off the win. The Italian’s podium finish also elevated him to third in the World Championship standings, overtaking Francesco Bagnaia, who suffered a late DNF at Turn 6.
The early stages of the race saw Bezzecchi, Fernandez, and Acosta break away before the Italian’s penalties reshaped the running order. Jack Miller’s crash at Turn 6 brought heartbreak for Australian fans, while Johann Zarco also retired early following a Turn 1 fall.
As the race unfolded, Alex Marquez briefly challenged for second before fading to fourth, while Acosta held off a late charge from Luca Marini (Honda HRC Castrol) to cling to fifth — by a mere 0.040 seconds.
Further back, Alex Rins (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) led the Yamaha charge in seventh, followed by Brad Binder, Enea Bastianini, and Pol Espargaro rounding out the top ten in a strong showing for KTM machinery.
Fernandez’s historic win has shaken up the mid-table standings, while Bezzecchi’s podium resurgence narrows the gap in the fight for third overall. At the top, Jorge Martin and Bagnaia remain the main title contenders, but with form swings and reliability issues emerging, every point will count in the final stretch.
