Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) received continental recognition for its commitment to football development after being awarded the AFC President’s Recognition Award for Grassroots Football – Silver at the prestigious AFC Awards 2025.
The glittering ceremony, held at the King Fahad Cultural Center, celebrated the remarkable efforts of Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Member Associations in nurturing a lifelong passion for football through safe, inclusive, and innovative programmes.
The United Arab Emirates Football Association took home the Gold award, while the Bangladesh Football Federation secured the Bronze, rounding off an evening that underscored Asia’s dedication to football development at every level.
For Malaysia, the recognition highlights the success of its rapidly growing Liga Suparimau—a nationwide grassroots platform designed to provide a structured and inclusive football environment for players aged five to sixteen. The programme, which previously earned the AFC Best Grassroots Competition Award in November 2024, continues to expand across the country, setting new standards in youth participation and football engagement.
FAM’s grassroots strategy has also been driven by strong partnerships with major organisations such as Nestle-Milo, the J8 Autism Athletics Company, and the Malaysian Association of Recreational Sports, ensuring football remains a powerful tool for social inclusion and community development.
In addition to competition-based initiatives, FAM has spearheaded several impactful social programmes, including the FAM–Milo Ultimate Experience and the Football for All Leadership Programme across Asia and Oceania. These efforts reinforce the Association’s dedication to using football as a vehicle for positive change and youth empowerment.
The Association has also prioritised knowledge sharing and capacity building, with the FAM Grassroots Course & Coaching Clinic and the Scouting Platform Workshop playing a vital role in enhancing the quality and professionalism of grassroots coaching and talent identification nationwide.
