Malaysia enjoyed a strong start to their Daihatsu Indonesia Masters 2026 campaign as several shuttlers successfully negotiated the qualifying round on Tuesday (20 January), delivering composed performances across women’s doubles and women’s singles at the HSBC BWF World Tour Super 500 event.
In women’s doubles, Cheng Su Hui and Tan Zhing Yi showed their growing chemistry by sealing a straight-games victory over Thailand’s P. Aiamvareesrisakul / Sarisa Janpeng, winning 21-16, 21-17. The Malaysian pair controlled the tempo well, keeping pressure on their opponents with sharp net play and disciplined defence to book their place in the main draw.
Fellow Malaysians Chong Jie Yu and Vanessa Ng were tested harder but displayed resilience to edge past Indonesia’s Nabila C. P. Ayu / Nahya Muhyifa in a three-game encounter. After dropping the opening game 16-21, the duo responded confidently to take the next two games 21-13, 21-19, underlining their mental strength in a hostile environment.
Meanwhile, in women’s singles, Wong Ling Ching delivered one of the standout results of the day with a commanding 21-9, 21-18 win over Japan’s Kaoru Sugiyama. Wong’s aggressive shot selection and court coverage proved decisive as she wrapped up the match in straight games.
The positive results provide a timely boost for Malaysia as attention now turns to the main draw, where tougher challenges await against higher-ranked opponents. With momentum firmly on their side, the Malaysian camp will be hopeful of extending their run and making a deeper impact in Jakarta.
