Malaysia’s number one women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah produced a masterclass performance to clinch the Arctic Open 2025 title, crushing Japan’s Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanishi in straight games, 21-7, 21-9, in just 32 minutes at the Vantaan Energia Areena.
From the opening exchanges, Pearly-Thinaah left no room for doubt. Their sharp anticipation, swift court coverage, and trademark attacking flair overwhelmed the Japanese pair, racing to an 11-4 mid-game lead before sealing the first game 21-7 in just 14 minutes.
The Malaysian pair’s intensity did not drop after the break. Combining precision with power, they stormed to an 11-3 advantage in the second game and maintained complete control before sealing victory 21-9, as Nakanishi failed to return Pearly’s crisp drive down the line.
The world number two duo were in imperious form, avenging last year’s final defeat and securing their second World Tour title of the season after their triumph at the Thailand Open in May.
The victory also marked their sixth win in eight encounters against Iwanaga-Nakanishi since their first meeting at the Sydney International 2019, reaffirming their dominance over the Japanese pair.
Already runners-up at the World Championships 2025, Pearly-Thinaah’s Arctic Open victory adds to a glittering season that also saw podium finishes at the Japan Open, Indonesia Open, and Indonesia Masters.
With their latest win, they took home US$37,525 (≈RM159,000), while Iwanaga-Nakanishi pocketed US$18,050 (≈RM76,000).
