The Malaysian football scene is set for one of its biggest nights ever after English Premier League giants Chelsea FC confirmed a blockbuster pre-season clash against Malaysian champions Johor Darul Ta’zim this August.
The highly anticipated “Lions vs Southern Tigers” encounter will take place on 11 August 2026 at the iconic Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 8:00 PM (MYT).
Organised by TEG Sport, the fixture is expected to attract massive attention across Southeast Asia as one of Europe’s most decorated clubs travels to Malaysia for a rare appearance on local soil.
The match will serve as a crucial final pre-season test for Chelsea ahead of the 2026/27 campaign under newly appointed manager Xabi Alonso.
The London giants arrive in Johor carrying enormous pedigree as reigning FIFA Club World Cup champions and one of the few clubs in world football to have completed the full collection of major trophies in the modern era.
Chelsea’s rich history includes multiple Premier League titles, UEFA Champions League crowns, FA Cups and Europa League triumphs, making their arrival in Malaysia a landmark occasion for football supporters across the region.
Chelsea Football Club Director of Football Operations Pete Nuttall expressed excitement about returning to Malaysia for the first time since 2013.
He stated that Southeast Asia remains one of the club’s most passionate fan bases and described the Johor fixture as a fantastic opportunity for supporters to watch the team live before the new season begins.
For JDT, the fixture represents another major milestone in the club’s rapid rise as a regional football powerhouse.
The Southern Tigers have dominated Malaysian football for more than a decade, winning 12 consecutive Malaysia Super League titles while also enjoying continued success in domestic cup competitions and on the continental stage.
JDT Chief Executive Officer Luis Garcia described the occasion as a proud moment for both the club and Malaysian football.
According to Garcia, hosting a global giant like Chelsea reflects JDT’s growing reputation within Asian football while showcasing Johor’s world-class facilities and football infrastructure.
He added that the match is expected to deliver an unforgettable atmosphere inside the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, widely regarded as one of the finest football venues in Southeast Asia.
Managing Director of TEG Sport Rachael Carroll also praised the support from Johor’s leadership in bringing the event to life.
She highlighted the incredible passion of Malaysian football fans and anticipated an electric atmosphere for the historic clash.
The fixture is expected to draw supporters from across Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and neighboring countries, with demand for tickets likely to be extremely high.
Ticket prices for Chelsea FC vs JDT start from RM154, with VIP packages reaching RM1,254.
Supporters’ club pre-sale access begins on 21 May 2026, while general public ticket sales open on 22 May 2026.
The blockbuster showdown is shaping up to become one of the biggest club football events ever hosted in Malaysia — a night where the pride of Johor will attempt to challenge one of world football’s biggest names on home soil.
