Thailand men’s national futsal team secured their 17th ASEAN title after edging Indonesia 2-1 in a dramatic final of the ASEAN Futsal Championship 2026 at the Nonthaburi PAO Gymnasium, Nonthaburi.
Ranked 11th in the world, Thailand were pushed to their limits by a resilient Indonesian side ranked 24th, but a composed second-half performance ensured the hosts lifted the regional crown once again in front of their home supporters.
Both teams started cautiously, battling for control in midfield. Thailand threatened early through Apiwat Chaemcharoen, whose clever corner routine in the fifth minute narrowly missed the target.
Indonesia responded with dangerous set-pieces, and goalkeeper Teerawat Kaewwilai was called into action to deny a powerful strike from Guntur Ariwibowo.
The breakthrough eventually came in the 16th minute, when Indonesia capitalised on a kick-in routine. Andres Putra finished clinically after receiving a pass from Adityas Wibowo, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Thailand pushed hard to respond before the break and was finally rewarded dramatically. With Indonesia committing their sixth foul, the hosts were awarded a second penalty with just two seconds remaining in the first half. Captain Itthicha Praphan stepped up and calmly converted to level the score 1-1 heading into the interval.
The second half saw Thailand increase the tempo, creating several clear opportunities through Minthada Piromyu and Teerasak Charoenpong, but Indonesian goalkeeper Angga Ariansyah produced a series of crucial saves to keep his team in the contest.
Thailand’s persistence paid off in the 31st minute when Panus Kitiphanuwong unleashed a powerful right-footed strike that flew past Ariansyah, completing the comeback and putting the hosts 2-1 ahead.
Indonesia responded by deploying a power-play tactic in the closing minutes, throwing numbers forward in search of an equaliser. The pressure nearly paid off when Muhammad Rahman headed against the crossbar following a delivery from Muhammad Sanjaya.
However, Thailand’s defensive discipline held firm, with goalkeeper Kaewwilai producing several key interventions to preserve the narrow advantage.
When the final whistle sounded, Thailand had successfully defended their lead to claim a hard-fought 2-1 victory, securing their 17th AFF futsal championship and reaffirming their dominance in Southeast Asian futsal.
The triumph also capped an impressive tournament run for the hosts, who had earlier defeated Australia 4-3 in the semi-final before overcoming a determined Indonesian side in the final showdown.
With another regional title secured, Thailand once again underline their status as the powerhouse of ASEAN futsal, while Indonesia leave the tournament with pride after pushing the champions to the limit in a thrilling final.
