Thailand U16 national team secured the spot of finalist after beating the Vietnam U16 national team scoring 2-1 in the ASEAN U16 Boys Championship 2024 semi-final at Manahan Stadium, Solo.
Thailand created the first significant chance of the match, but their striker couldn’t get past Vietnamese goalkeeper Thang Long. Nine minutes later, Phosri’s dangerous shot was blocked by Hong Quang, putting Vietnam under pressure in the early stages.
From the 25th minute, Vietnam improved their play with faster and more precise counter-attacks. Viet Long and Gia Bao made intelligent runs, but couldn’t find the net. In the 42nd minute, Gia Bao’s long-range shot was spectacularly saved by Thai goalkeeper Poonphol, leaving the first half goalless.
Vietnam began the second half confidently and earned a penalty in the 50th minute after Hong Quang was fouled in the box. Hong Phong converted the penalty to give Vietnam a 1-0 lead.
However, Thailand equalized in the 60th minute through Phuriphan, who bravely scored from a corner but suffered a head injury in the process. The match remained tense, with both teams exchanging attacks. In the 81st minute, Duy Dang’s header from Viet Long’s cross went just wide.
The decisive moment came in the second minute of extra time. In the 90+2 minute, Chalwat scored from a right-wing cross to give Thailand a 2-1 lead. Vietnam had a few more chances, but Hong Quang and Duy Dang couldn’t convert, resulting Thailand win 2-1 and opassing to final round.
