Osmar Loss, head coach of Buriram United hailed his Buriram United side’s second-half intensity after the Thunder Castle fought back to defeat Johor Darul Ta’zim 2-1 in their opening AFC Champions League Elite 2025/26 East Zone fixture at Buriram Stadium, Buriram.
The Brazilian tactician admitted both sides produced a thrilling contest, with attacking football on display throughout. Buriram fell behind early but turned the game around thanks to a standout performance from Suphanat Mueanta, who scored once and assisted another to seal three points for the hosts.
“Today was a tough and exciting game, with both teams attacking,” Osmar said in his post-match press conference.
“The key was precision in our final third. When we created chances, my players executed well. JDT surprised us in the first half by building up with just one central midfielder, which we hadn’t expected. But at halftime, we adjusted, came out with more aggression, and that shift led us to the victory.”
Thai forward Suphanat Mueanta once more proved to be JDT’s tormentor, scoring the equalizer before turning provider for Robert Zulj’s winner. It was his second consecutive match scoring against the Malaysian champions in continental competition.
Speaking after the match, Suphanat reflected on the team effort behind his individual heroics.
“The first half was difficult, JDT put us under a lot of pressure,” said the 22-year-old.
“But in the second half we adjusted – players, coaches, and staff all discussed what to change. That teamwork helped us turn the game around.
“People may highlight me for scoring and assisting, but really it’s thanks to my teammates. From the defenders to the forwards, everyone contributed to this win.”
