Sabah FC denied Selangor FC a crucial three points after battling to a 1–1 draw in a fiercely contested Liga Super Malaysia 2025/26 encounter at MBPJ Stadium, Petaling Jaya.
The home side took control midway through the first half. In the 31st minute, Selangor winger Faisal Halim produced a moment of brilliance, unleashing a powerful strike from outside the penalty area that rocketed into the net, sending the MBPJ crowd into celebration.
However, Selangor’s lead lasted only four minutes. Sabah forward Fergus Tierney showcased his individual quality with a stunning equaliser.
The Malaysia–Scotland heritage striker dribbled past three Selangor defenders before calmly firing past the goalkeeper to level the score at 1–1.
The first half ended with both teams locked on equal terms after an entertaining opening 45 minutes.
Selangor came close to regaining the lead early in the second half through attempts from Faisal Halim and Nooa Laine, but Sabah goalkeeper Damien Lim produced excellent saves to keep the visitors in the contest.
Sabah then tightened their defensive structure, absorbing sustained pressure from the Red Giants while looking for opportunities on the counterattack.
Despite the attacking efforts from both sides, neither team could find a decisive breakthrough before the final whistle.
The match ended 1–1, with both teams forced to settle for a point each.
The result leaves Selangor in second place with 43 points, while Sabah remain in 10th place with 16 points, though the Rhinos will take confidence from their resilient performance against one of the league’s title contenders.
