Thailand U20 women’s national team saw their campaign at the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup 2026 come to a heartbreaking end after a 2–1 extra-time defeat to the Korea Republic U20 women’s national team in the quarter-finals at Thammasat Stadium, Pathum Thani.
Despite a spirited fightback and pushing the match into extra time, the Young War Elephants ultimately fell short, ending their journey in the tournament’s last-eight stage.
Thailand entered the match as Group A runners-up, facing a strong Korea Republic side who finished second in Group B.
From the opening whistle, Korea Republic controlled possession and created the first real opportunity in the eighth minute through Lee Hae-an, whose long-range effort sailed over the crossbar.
The breakthrough came in the 16th minute when Han Min-seo delivered a dangerous corner that found Nam Seung-un, who rose above the Thai defence to head home and give Korea Republic a 1–0 lead.
Thailand gradually grew into the match and began creating chances of their own. Forward Kulisara Limpawanich drew a foul in a promising position before captain Rinyaphat Muldong attempted a free-kick, though her effort drifted over the bar.
Moments later, Kaden Chaowphan tried a volley following a corner but also missed the target.
The Thai side continued pressing, with Pitchayathida Manowang coming close in the 31st minute after a quick turnover, only to see her strike land on the roof of the net.
Just before half-time, Thailand nearly found the equaliser when Rinyaphat set up Kulisara, who broke through the defence but fired narrowly wide. Korea Republic entered the break with a 1–0 advantage.
Thailand began the second half with renewed determination, forcing Korea Republic goalkeeper Kim Jae-bin into several saves.
Their persistence finally paid off in the 72nd minute. After a defensive mistake by Korea Republic, Kulisara set up Madison Jet Cassteen, who calmly finished to bring Thailand level at 1–1.
Thailand continued to push for a winner, with substitute Ketsirin Bunmatun nearly scoring from a loose ball following a free-kick.
Madison Cassteen also had a late opportunity in the 87th minute, but her shot narrowly missed the target.
With the score tied after 90 minutes, the match moved into extra time.
Thailand remained resilient in extra time, with Kaden Chaowphan testing the Korean defence with a powerful strike in the 95th minute, but her shot flew over the bar.
However, Korea Republic regained the lead in the 106th minute. A long ball released Park Ju-ha, who broke through the Thai defence and calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper Chonlathicha Panyarung.
Thailand pushed forward in the closing minutes in search of another equaliser but were unable to break through Korea Republic’s defence.
The final whistle confirmed a 2–1 victory for Korea Republic, ending Thailand’s campaign in the quarter-finals of the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup 2026.
