The Malaysian Football League (MFL) has announced a landmark licensing partnership with Konami Digital Entertainment, bringing Malaysia’s top domestic football competition into the globally popular video game eFootball for the first time.
The historic collaboration, revealed on April 9, 2026, introduces Malaysian clubs into the global football gaming ecosystem, allowing fans to experience their favourite teams beyond stadiums and onto the virtual pitch.
The initiative launches alongside the eFootball Version 5.4 update, giving players the opportunity to lead Malaysian clubs using authentic team kits, updated player rosters and the series’ signature realistic gameplay.
According to KONAMI, Malaysia boasts one of the most passionate football communities in Southeast Asia, making the integration of the Malaysian league a major milestone for both the game and the country’s football scene.
All 13 participating clubs in the Malaysian league system will be featured in the game, including: Johor Darul Ta’zim, Selangor FC, Terengganu FC, Sabah FC, Kuala Lumpur City, Negeri Sembilan FC, PDRM FC, Kuching City, Kelantan The Real Warriors FC, Penang FC, Imigresen FC, Melaka FC ,DPMM FC
President of the Malaysian Football League, Dato’ Ab Ghani Hassan, hailed the partnership as a significant step in connecting the local game with fans in a new digital era.
“This collaboration with KONAMI allows Malaysian football to connect with supporters in a completely new way. For the first time, fans can represent their favourite Malaysian League clubs in eFootball, bringing the excitement and competitiveness of our league into the digital world,” he said.
To celebrate the launch of the Malaysian League in the game, players logging into eFootball during the campaign period will receive exclusive in-game rewards.
Users will be granted a Selection Contract, which can be used to obtain Highlight Cards featuring selected Malaysian League players, allowing gamers to build squads featuring some of the league’s top talents.
In conjunction with the update, a dedicated Malaysia server has also been launched to improve match stability, responsiveness and overall gameplay experience for local players.
The server upgrade is expected to significantly enhance online matches and support the rapidly growing Malaysian eFootball community.
KONAMI is also expanding esports initiatives in the country through the eFootball Championship 2026 Malaysia Cup, currently taking place in Malaysia.
The tournament will culminate with the Malaysia Cup Finals on April 18–19 at LaLaport BBCC, where the nation’s best players will compete in live offline matches.
Champions in both mobile and console categories will earn qualification to the eFootball Championship 2026 Open Regional Finals, offering Malaysian gamers the opportunity to compete on the international stage.
Originally known as Pro Evolution Soccer (PES), the game was rebranded as eFootball as part of KONAMI’s transition to a free-to-play, cross-platform football gaming ecosystem.
Today, the platform has surpassed one billion downloads worldwide, reflecting its global popularity and expanding digital football community.
With the Malaysian League now officially part of the game, the partnership marks a major step forward for Malaysian football’s international visibility, bridging the gap between the real-world competition and the ever-growing digital football universe.
