Penang FC finally ended their four-month wait for a victory after staging a spirited comeback to defeat DPMM FC 2-1 in their final Liga Super Malaysia 2025/26 match of the season at Stadium Bandaraya, Pulau Pinang.
The victory provided a much-needed boost for the Panthers, who showed resilience and determination to overturn an early deficit in front of their home supporters.
The visitors struck first in the 41st minute through Jordan Murray following a swift attacking move initiated by former Malaysian international Syafiq Ahmad.
Syafiq produced a powerful run behind the Penang defence before finding Ibrahim Sulley in space. Despite having an opportunity to shoot himself, Ibrahim displayed excellent awareness by squaring a low pass across goal for Murray, who calmly tapped home to give DPMM FC the lead before halftime.
Penang, however, returned after the break with renewed intensity and eventually found their equaliser in the 58th minute.
Australian forward Dylan Wenzel-Halls capitalised on a defensive error from DPMM after intercepting possession before unleashing a low drive from outside the penalty area that beat goalkeeper Haimie Abdullah Nyaring for Penang’s first goal of the evening.
The home crowd erupted once again in the 82nd minute when Penang captain Stefano Brundo rose highest to head home Adib Ra’op’s corner kick, completing the turnaround and handing the Panthers a valuable 2-1 advantage.
Drama continued late in the match when Penang were forced to finish the game with 10 men after substitute Chia Rou Han suffered an injury just four minutes before fulltime, with the home side having already used all available substitutions.
Despite the setback, Penang defended bravely in the closing moments to secure all three points and finally bring an end to their lengthy winless streak.
The result not only gave the Panthers a positive finish to the season but also provided a morale boost heading into the next campaign after months of frustration in the league.
For DPMM FC, the defeat marked a disappointing end to their away campaign despite an encouraging first-half display and moments of attacking quality throughout the encounter.
