Johor Darul Ta’zim Futsal have officially clinched the Malaysia Premier Futsal League (MPFL) Division 1 title after a commanding 4-1 win over Sabah FA in their latest fixture, sealing their second championship triumph in style.
The Southern Tigers, led by head coach Juan Antonio Miguel Garcia, entered the match needing just a draw to confirm their status as champions. However, they went a step further, delivering a dominant second-half performance at Dewan Sri Putatan to lift the trophy with one game to spare.
Sabah, under Roger Filipe Augusto Gouveia, stunned the visitors early as Muhd Taufik Abdul Wahab opened the scoring just two minutes into the match, sending the home crowd into a frenzy. The goal sparked hopes that Sabah could delay JDT’s title celebration for at least another week.
JDT responded through Brazilian forward Bruno Taffy, who linked up well with Awalluddin Mat Nawi and Firdaus Ambiah in search of an equaliser. Their persistence paid off when Taffy netted the leveller in the 18th minute, ensuring the teams went into halftime at 1-1.
In the second half, Sabah pressed hard for a second goal and nearly regained the lead through Farhan Arman, but his effort was brilliantly denied by JDT goalkeeper Azrul Hadee Mohd Taufiq.
The Southern Tigers took full advantage of the momentum swing. Firdaus Ambiah struck to give JDT the lead before Awalluddin Mat Nawi added a third moments later. Danial Abdul Dain then put the result beyond doubt with a stunning long-range effort to seal a 4-1 victory and the title.
This emphatic win confirms JDT as the 2025 MPFL Division 1 Champions, adding to their growing trophy cabinet and reinforcing their dominance in Malaysian futsal. It marks their second league title, following their previous triumph in 2024.
JDT will look to close their league campaign on a high when they face Selangor FC on 12 July, while Sabah will wrap up their season against Kedah on the same day.
