Johor Darul Ta’zim Futsal made history by becoming champions for the first time after defeating Kuala Lumpur City 9-2 in the Malaysia Premier Futsal League 2024 at MPPG Indoor Stadium, Pasir Gudang.
This sweet victory, celebrated in front of their home supporters, made up for the disappointment of the team managed by Juan Antonio Miguel Garcia, who had twice fallen short in the final stage last season.
Despite facing an opponent yet to collect any points this season, JDT was not given an easy path, especially in the early stages of the game. KL City started fiercely with several dangerous attempts at the JDT goal, but goalkeeper Azrul Hadee Mohd Taufiq was resolute in repelling the series of attempts.
The home side erupted in joy in the sixth minute after Ridzwan Bakri finished off a follow-up attempt from outside the D area, following Firdaus Ambiah’s initial shot saved by KL City goalkeeper Muhamad Arif Alias, putting JDT in front.
JDT then added a second goal four minutes later through experienced player Abu Haniffa Hassan. Not satisfied with the two-goal advantage, Bruno Taffy blasted a shot from outside the D area after receiving a good pass from Caio Cesar Garcia Rego, strengthening their position in the 11th minute. Abu Haniffa Hassan then doubled the lead with a swipe attempt from the left side of the goal that Arif failed to save.
Less than a minute after that goal, Caio easily tapped in the ball from Bruno Taffy’s free kick. Four more JDT goals were contributed by Ridzwan, Awalluddin Mat Nawi, Aizat Sa’ari, and Firdaus Ambiah, while two consolation goals for the visiting team were scored by Eom Ji-yong and Ahmad Zulfathi Zubir.
This remarkable performance and historic win solidified JDT Futsal’s position as champions of the Malaysia Premier Futsal League 2024.
