Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced pivotal updates for the 2026 editions of the AFC Futsal Asian Cup™, signaling transformative changes in hosting, scheduling, and seeding principles.
These decisions, ratified by the AFC Executive Committee on November 8, 2024, are set to shape the future of Asian football and futsal.
The Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) has been confirmed as the host for the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup™, solidifying Indonesia’s growing reputation as a key player in hosting regional football tournaments. This follows the recommendation by the AFC Futsal & Beach Soccer Committee and highlights the country’s readiness to showcase futsal’s premier competition.
In a move to align with global standards, the AFC will replace the existing seeding approach based on rankings from the previous edition of the AFC Futsal Asian Cup™. Starting with the 2025 edition, seeding for the AFC Futsal and Women’s Futsal Asian Cups will be determined by the FIFA Futsal World Rankings, introduced earlier this year. This adjustment aims to foster a more competitive environment by leveraging an updated and comprehensive global ranking system.
