Cambodian football witnessed history in the making as Vireak Dara, the national team goalkeeper and star of Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC, produced an extraordinary moment that may rewrite the global football record books.
During the Cambodian Premier League clash away to ISI Dangkor Senchey, Vireak shocked players, fans, and officials alike when he found the back of the net just nine seconds into the match. Immediately after kickoff, the 28-year-old launched a powerful long ball from his own half. The opposing goalkeeper misread the flight and advanced too far, allowing the ball to bounce over him and land decisively in the goal.
If officially confirmed, Vireak’s 9-second wonder strike will eclipse the current world record for the fastest goal scored by a goalkeeper. That record, set at 13 seconds, is held by former Stoke City and Bosnia-Herzegovina goalkeeper Asmir Begović, who scored against Southampton in the Premier League back in 2013.
