Malaysia’s top women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan–M. Thinaah saw their India Open 2026 campaign come to an end after bowing out in the semi-finals today.
The world No. 2 duo were outplayed by Japan’s sixth-ranked pairing Yuki Fukushima–Mayu Matsumoto, going down 21-16, 21-13 in a 42-minute encounter at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, New Delhi.
The Malaysians struggled to impose their usual attacking rhythm against the experienced Japanese pair, who controlled the tempo with solid defence and sharp counter-attacks. Matters became more challenging in the second game when Pearly appeared to injure her ankle, briefly halting play to receive medical treatment.
Despite the setback, Pearly showed grit and determination by continuing the match, but Fukushima-Matsumoto remained composed to close out the contest in straight games.
Although disappointed with the semi-final exit, the result still represents a solid showing for Pearly-Thinaah, who continue to establish themselves among the elite in women’s doubles on the BWF World Tour.
The Malaysian pair will now turn their focus to the Indonesia Masters next week, where they will be hoping to bounce back strongly and maintain their push for silverware early in the season.
