Malaysia will have a strong presence in the Victor Korea Masters 2026 quarter-finals after producing an impressive set of results in the Round of 16 on Thursday (6 August), with eight representatives successfully booking their places in the last eight of the HSBC BWF World Tour Super 300 tournament.
Leading the charge were established stars Aaron Chia and Aaron Tai, who delivered one of the performances of the day by dismantling second seeds and fellow Malaysians Choi Sol Gyu and Goh V Shem in straight games, 21-14, 21-13.
The victory underlined the pair’s excellent form as they continue their bid for another international title.
Mixed doubles also proved to be a major source of success for Malaysia.
National pair Chen Tang Jie and Clarissa San overcame Taiwan’s fourth seeds Wu Hsuan-Yi and Yang Chu Yun in three games, winning 21-12, 13-21, 21-11 after regaining control in the deciding game.
Meanwhile, the exciting partnership of Loo Bing Kun and Aqilah Maisarah continued their impressive run with a composed 21-15, 22-20 victory over Australia’s A. Ramadiansyah and Nozomi Shimizu, advancing without dropping a game.
Fifth seeds Jimmy Wong and Cheng Su Yin survived a thrilling battle against South Korea’s Kim Joon Young and Lee Yu Lim, recovering from a slow start before edging a dramatic decider 25-23 to reach the quarter-finals.
In men’s singles, rising Malaysian talent Cheam June Wei produced a commanding performance to defeat China’s Dong Tian Yao 21-10, 21-13, while men’s doubles pair Man Wei Chong and Soh Wooi Yik comfortably overcame Singapore’s Nge Joo Jie and Donovan Wee 21-18, 21-14.
Another Malaysian men’s doubles partnership, Tee Kai Wun and Yap Roy King, also impressed by eliminating South Korea’s Jin Yong and Lee Jong Min with a convincing 21-15, 21-13 victory.
Eogene Ewe fought hard before losing 21-23, 21-19, 13-21 to Taiwan’s seventh seed Su Li Yang, while women’s doubles pair Cheng Su Hui and Chong Jie Yu fell in straight games to Taiwan’s eighth seeds Lin Chih-Chun and Yang Chu Yun.
Men’s doubles duo Low Hang Yee and Ng Eng Cheong also bowed out after a three-game defeat to Taiwan’s third seeds He Zhi-Wei and Huang Jui-Hsuan, despite forcing a decider.
