Malaysia’s top mixed doubles pair, Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei, bowed out of the China Masters 2024 after falling to Chinese top seeds Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dong Ping in the semi-finals in Shenzhen this morning.
The world No. 10 Malaysians, who had shown tremendous resilience in their quarter-final comeback win, were unable to replicate the same magic. They succumbed to an 18-21, 13-21 defeat in a 45-minute clash against the formidable Chinese pair, who have now extended their head-to-head advantage to four wins in six meetings.
While the loss ended their China Masters journey, Tang Jie-Ee Wei can take pride in their overall performance. Their consistency this season has secured them a coveted spot in the BWF World Tour Finals, set to take place next month in Hangzhou, China. The Malaysians are currently ranked fourth on the qualification list, with the top eight earning a berth in the prestigious season-ending tournament.
The Chinese duo, Yan Zhe-Dong Ping, demonstrated why they are the top seeds, delivering a commanding performance to progress to the final. They too have qualified for the World Tour Finals, adding to their already impressive season.
As Tang Jie-Ee Wei regroup for the World Tour Finals, they will aim to build on their success and address the gaps evident in today’s match. Their qualification underscores their status as one of the world’s elite mixed doubles pairs, and they remain a strong contender for future titles.
