Thailand Football Association President Nualphan Lamsam, affectionately known as Madam Pang, has hailed the fighting spirit and determination of Thailand’s emerging stars after maintaining their flawless start to the ASEAN Hyundai Cup 2026, while announcing a THB 2 million (approximately RM244,403) bonus if the team secures top spot in Group B.
Despite entering the tournament without several established stars due to the competition falling outside the FIFA international window, Thailand have responded brilliantly by collecting six points from their opening two matches, defeating Laos 5-0 before overcoming regional rivals Malaysia 2-0 at Rajamangala National Stadium.
Madam Pang believes the biggest positive has been the fearless mentality displayed by the country’s next generation of players.
“What impressed me most was the hunger, commitment and desire of the young players to prove themselves,” she said.
She singled out Yotsakorn Burapha, who confidently converted a crucial penalty against Malaysia to help inspire the victory, while also praising Teerasak Poeiphimai, who has now scored in consecutive matches.
However, Madam Pang stressed that Thailand’s perfect defensive record has also been built on the leadership of experienced campaigners.
She credited veterans Sarach Yooyen, Kampon Pathamarakkul, and Manuel Tom Bihr for providing stability and guidance to the youthful squad, helping Thailand record two clean sheets while collecting maximum points.
As the team departed for the Philippines, Madam Pang delivered an additional morale boost by promising a THB 2 million bonus should Thailand finish as Group B champions and advance to the semi-finals.
The incentive reflects the Football Association of Thailand’s confidence in a squad that has quickly emerged as one of the tournament’s standout performers despite its youthful composition.
Thailand now turn their attention to a crucial away fixture against the Philippines on 4 August at New Clark City Athletics Stadium in Capas.
