Laos U19 national team successfully qualified for the final after defeating Thailand U19 by a score 2-0 in the AFF U19 Championship 2022 semi-final. at Patriot Candrabhaka Stadium, Bekasi.
Status as the favorite champion, Thailand was surprised by the discipline game from Laos. Michael Weiss’s team appear confident and able to serve the game pressing Thailand.
Thailand was actually able to dominate possession in the first half but it was Laos who managed to steal the advantage in the ninth minute.
Laos managed to steal a goal through Peeter Phantavong’s shot after taking advantage of the chaos in front of the Thai goal.
Thailand is trying to increase the intensity of the attacks. However, Laos’ compact defense made it difficult for Thailand to penetrate the opponent’s penalty box.
Thailand just got the best chance at the end of the first half through Nattakin Butsing’s header. But his header was still slightly off the left side of the Laos goal.
There were no additional goals that were able to be scored by both teams until the first half match was over. Laos winning 1-0 over Thailand until halftime.
Entering the second half, Thailand was increasingly pressing the defense of Laos. Attacks from the wings and bait one or two in the penalty box were tried but Laos could still be suppressed until the middle of the second half.
While Laos chose to play defensively while waiting for a gap to launch a counterattack, relying on one spearhead ready to do a solo run on the front lines.
Thailand’s best chance came in the 78th minute. Good cooperation in the penalty box resulted in a shot on goal but the ball was still able to be blocked by a Lao player who was standing right on the goal line.
Instead of scoring a goal, the Thai goal was conceded again in the 84th minute. It was Damoth Thongkhamsavath who succeeded in breaking into Narongsak Naengwongsa’s goal.
Left behind by two goals, the Thai players mentally collapsed. Control of the game was in the hands of Laos until the game was over.
Thus, Laos has the right to advance to the 2022 AFF U-19 Cup final against Malaysia, which had beaten Vietnam 3-0 first.
