Controversy has emerged following the Thai Grand Prix after race organizers confirmed that the points awarded to the Top 15 finishers were initially calculated incorrectly, prompting a revision to the official results.
The race, held at the renowned Chang International Circuit, originally saw all riders finishing within the Top 15 receive full championship points. However, a post-race review by race officials discovered a miscalculation involving the completed race distance.
The Moto2 race was originally scheduled for 22 laps, covering a total distance of approximately 100.9 kilometers.
During the race, a red flag incident forced the race to stop, leading to a restart procedure. However, after combining the distance covered in the initial race and the restarted session, officials later determined that the total completed distance did not reach 50% of the scheduled race distance.
Further complicating the situation, the first restart was not counted because the race was halted before the field could complete a full lap.
Due to this unusual sequence of events, the Race Direction software initially failed to detect the issue, automatically awarding full championship points to all riders in the points-paying positions.
After a detailed review, race organizers have now corrected the official standings, confirming that riders will only receive 50% of the standard Moto2 points allocation.
Under the revised scoring system:
- The race winner, who would normally receive 25 points, will now be awarded 12.5 points.
- Riders finishing further down the order will also receive half-points, with the final points position (P15) receiving 0.5 points instead of the usual 1 point.

While the correction restores compliance with racing regulations regarding minimum race distance, it also highlights the complexities of race management when red flags and multiple restarts disrupt the original race structure.
