ACL Two: BGPU Snatch Late Point Away to LCS
BG Pathum United began their AFC Champions League Two Group F campaign with a hard-fought point, coming from behind to draw 1-1 away to Singapore Premier League heavyweights Lion City Sailors FC at the Jalan Besar Stadium, Kallang.
The hosts broke the deadlock in the 25th minute, though not through a moment of individual quality — Lion City Sailors were gifted the opener when BG Pathum United defender Marko Nikolić turned the ball into his own net, putting the Singaporean side 1-0 up.
BG Pathum United made an early tactical adjustment before the break, introducing Raniel Santana in place of João Magno in first-half stoppage time, but the visitors went in trailing 1-0 at the interval.
BG Pathum United wasted no time making further changes at the start of the second half, sending on Mateus Costa for Ryan Edwards at the break as they looked to find a route back into the game.
The switch paid immediate dividends. In the 51st minute, "The Rabbits" drew level through Patrik Gustafsson, who fired home the equaliser to make it 1-1 and silence the home crowd at Jalan Besar.
Both sides continued to rotate their options as the second half progressed. BG Pathum United brought on Elias Dolah for Edin Osmanović in the 64th minute, before making a double change in the 69th minute, introducing Sarach Yooyen and Surachat Sareepim in place of Antoine Belmonte and matchwinner Patrik Gustafsson.
Neither side could find a further breakthrough in the time that remained, and the match ultimately finished 1-1, with Lion City Sailors FC and BG Pathum United sharing the points in a competitive Group F opener to their AFC Champions League Two campaigns.
