Selangor FC survived a stern challenge from Sabah FC to book their place in the 2026/27 Malaysia FA Cup quarter-finals after securing a 2-1 victory in the second leg of their Round of 16 tie at MBPJ Stadium, Petaling Jaya.
Head coach Kim Pan-gon named an attacking trio of Chrigor Moraes, Tejan Kay and Faisal Halim as Selangor looked to protect their advantage, while Sabah were led by experienced defender Dominic Tan, alongside Enrique Lopez.
Selangor made the brighter start and eventually broke the deadlock in the first half.
Eduardo Sosa produced a long-range effort from outside the penalty area that proved too difficult for Sabah goalkeeper Juan Flere, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead.
Sabah returned from the interval with renewed determination and found the equaliser just four minutes into the second half.
In the 49th minute, Park Jungbin capitalised on an error by Harith Haiqal before unleashing a powerful shot that beat the Selangor goalkeeper to make it 1-1.
Selangor restored their lead in the 56th minute when Brazilian striker Chrigor Moraes reacted quickest to fire home the rebound after his initial penalty attempt had been saved.
With Sabah unable to find another equaliser, Selangor held on for a crucial 2-1 victory on the night.
The result confirmed a 4-3 aggregate win for the Red Giants and secured their passage into the FA Cup quarter-finals.
Selangor will now face Star City in the quarter-finals of the 2026/27 Piala FA Malaysia, as Kim Pan-gon’s side continues their quest for silverware this season.
