The stage is set for a heavyweight tactical battle. BG Pathum United head coach Masatada Ishii has sent a clear warning to Selangor FC
The “Rabbits” are at full strength and ready to seize their destiny in the Shopee Cup 2025/26 Group Stage, Group A final match.
Fresh off a clinical 2-0 victory over DH Cebu—fueled by goals from Kritsada Kaman and Singaporean hitman Ikhsan Fandi—the Thai giants arrive at the MBPJ Stadium knowing that only a win guarantees them a return to the semi-finals for the second consecutive season.
While Selangor boss Kim Pan-gon frets over player fatigue, Ishii is enjoying a luxury few coaches have at this stage of the season: a squad with zero casualties.
“At the moment, we do not have any suspensions or injury concerns, which allows us to select our strongest possible team for tomorrow’s match,” Ishii confirmed.
With key stars like Chanathip Songkrasin available to pull the strings, the Thai League 1 outfit possesses the firepower to turn the Red Giants’ home advantage into a nightmare.
Ishii has spent the week deep in the lab, dissecting Selangor’s high-octane style under Kim Pan-gon. The Japanese tactician was quick to praise the tactical discipline of the Malaysian side but insists he has found the “chinks in the armor.”
“Selangor FC have a very strong attacking side and good quality in defence as well. They press very high, very aggressively and they are well organised. These are things we must be very careful about,” Ishii noted.
“We have done a lot of preparation, including detailed video analysis sessions with the players and coaching staff to identify areas we can exploit. This is a very important match for us.”
Unlike Selangor, who can settle for a draw, BG Pathum United are essentially in “knockout mode.” A victory would see them leapfrog the Red Giants into first place and secure safe passage to the final four.
With Ishii’s meticulous preparation and a rested, healthy squad, the Thai side is banking on their superior technical quality to silence the home crowd tomorrow night.
