Malaysian men’s hockey team ended their 2025 Asia Cup campaign on a high note, clinching third place after defeating China 4-1 in the bronze medal match at the Bihar University Hockey Stadium.
Head coach Sarjit Singh’s men showed intent right from the start, breaking the deadlock in the 8th minute through Norsyafiq Sumantri’s precise penalty corner strike.
After a controlled first half, the Speedy Tigers shifted gears in the second period. Star forward Mohamad Akhimullah Anuar Esook stole the show with two brilliant field goals in the 36th and 50th minutes, stretching Malaysia’s lead to 3-0.
China managed a consolation goal in the 54th minute when Gao Jiesheng converted a penalty corner, but Malaysia quickly restored their three-goal cushion. In the 59th minute, Syed Mohamad Syafiq Syed Cholan fired home another penalty corner to seal a commanding 4-1 victory.
The bronze medal marks a strong finish for Malaysia after falling short of the final. With solid performances throughout the tournament and a clinical display in their closing match, the Speedy Tigers demonstrated their ability to compete among Asia’s best.
This result provides a morale boost as Malaysia look ahead to upcoming international fixtures and continue their build-up toward the 2026 Hockey World Cup qualifiers.
