Malaysia’s national football team is set to receive a significant boost with up to RM15 million in funding, as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The funds, aimed at supporting the management, training, and welfare of the team, include RM10 million from the government and an additional RM5 million from private companies.
Anwar emphasized the importance of this initiative in helping the national squad strengthen and compete more effectively on the Asian stage.
He noted that football is a passion for many young Malaysians, and this funding will focus on improving facilities and the well-being of both players and staff. The Prime Minister expressed his commitment to ensuring that Malaysia’s national team, Harimau Malaya, can rise to become one of Asia’s football giants in the coming years.
In January, the government had already allocated RM5 million to the national team following their strong performance in the 2023 Asian Cup. The latest funding injection reaffirms the government’s support for the future of Malaysian football.
