A massive storm is brewing in Southeast Asian football as sensational claims emerge linking PSSI President Erick Thohir to a high-level FIFA complaint regarding the eligibility of seven Malaysian naturalized players.
While Vietnam was previously named by the AFC as the official complainant, explosive new details suggest the “hidden hand” orchestrating the move belongs to none other than the Indonesian sports tycoon and Minister.
According to a source from Latin America within FIFA speaking to Mynewshub, Thohir has allegedly been operating from the shadows. The claim suggests that while Vietnam signed the paperwork, the crucial documents and evidence were funneled into FIFA via intermediaries hired by the PSSI chief.

Why go to such lengths? Insiders suggest two main drivers for this “cold war” in regional football:
- Harimau Malaya’s Surge: Anxiety that Malaysia’s rapid improvement is beginning to eclipse Indonesia’s own naturalization project.
- The “TMJ” Factor: Reports suggest Thohir is wary of the influential role played by the Acting Sultan of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, whose leadership at JDT and influence in the national setup has set a new gold standard in the region.
Erick Thohir is no stranger to the spotlight of controversy. From holding dual roles as PSSI President and Head of the Referee Committee to his vocal outbursts against FIFA’s refereeing choices during the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, the Indonesian leader has frequently challenged the status quo.
