MotoGP is heading to one of the world’s most iconic cities for its biggest pre-season celebration yet, with Rio de Janeiro confirmed as host of the official MotoGP 2027 Season Launch on February 21, 2027.
The event will bring every MotoGP team, rider and manufacturer together in Brazil ahead of the new championship season, with the main presentation scheduled to take place at Botafogo Beach, beneath the spectacular backdrop of Sugarloaf Mountain.
The announcement marks another major milestone in MotoGP’s growing relationship with Brazil and follows the championship’s hugely successful return to the country in 2026.
The 2027 Season Launch will transform Rio’s famous waterfront into a global motorsport stage, combining the unveiling of the new MotoGP season with a major programme of entertainment and fan activities.
For the first time, fans outside a Grand Prix weekend will have the opportunity to see all MotoGP teams, riders and factory motorcycles together in one location.
The event will feature official team presentations, rider appearances and interviews, manufacturer exhibitions, interactive fan experiences, merchandise and live entertainment.
Internationally acclaimed artists will perform alongside leading Brazilian musicians and entertainers, creating a festival atmosphere designed to reflect Rio’s world-famous culture and music scene.
With Botafogo Beach and Sugarloaf Mountain providing the backdrop, MotoGP aims to deliver a Season Launch unlike any previous edition.
Rio’s selection comes after MotoGP’s successful return to Brazil in 2026. The sold-out Grand Prix weekend in Goiânia attracted almost 150,000 spectators, underlining the country’s enormous passion for motorcycle racing and its importance as one of MotoGP’s key global markets.
The success of the Brazilian Grand Prix provided the foundation for MotoGP to take another major step in the country by bringing its flagship pre-season event to Rio de Janeiro.
The Season Launch has rapidly developed into one of MotoGP’s most important annual events, attracting international media, broadcasters, commercial partners and fans while generating extensive television, digital and social-media coverage around the world.
Beyond motorsport, the event is expected to provide significant international exposure for Rio de Janeiro.
Recent Season Launches in Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur demonstrated the ability of the event to combine global motorsport with destination marketing and city activation.
The 2026 MotoGP Season Launch in Kuala Lumpur generated more than US$7 million in economic value, highlighting the growing commercial and tourism impact of the event.
Rio will now have the opportunity to showcase its beaches, culture, landmarks and hospitality to a worldwide audience.
The city will also use the event to reinforce its reputation as a destination capable of staging major international sporting and entertainment spectacles.
MotoGP expects the Rio event to raise the standard once again.
Fans attending Botafogo Beach will be able to see the latest MotoGP machinery before it takes to the track, meet riders and experience team presentations, while manufacturer displays will offer a closer look at the technology behind the world’s fastest prototype motorcycles.
Live music, entertainment, fan activations and interactive experiences will run alongside the sporting programme.
The combination of MotoGP’s global stars and Rio’s unique atmosphere is expected to create a spectacular opening to the 2027 season.
MotoGP Group CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta welcomed the announcement, describing the Season Launch as one of the championship’s defining moments.
“The MotoGP Season Launch has become one of the defining moments of the year for our championship, bringing together every team, rider and manufacturer as we begin a new season.”
Ezpeleta also highlighted the response from Brazilian fans during MotoGP’s return to Goiânia in 2026.
He believes Rio’s combination of iconic locations, passionate fans and world-class entertainment can take the Season Launch to another level.
Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere said the city is proud to host one of international motorsport’s biggest annual events.
He highlighted Rio’s combination of natural beauty, sporting culture and globally recognised landmarks, with the Season Launch expected to showcase the city to millions of MotoGP fans around the world.
From Botafogo Beach and Sugarloaf Mountain to Christ the Redeemer, Rio will provide a spectacular backdrop as MotoGP begins its 2027 journey.
