Kuching City produced a composed and clinical display on home soil to defeat Selangor FC and secure their place in the Piala Malaysia 2025/26 final, sealing a memorable night in Stadium Negeri, Kuching.
After a tightly contested 1-1 draw in the first leg on April 5, both sides entered the second leg knowing that a single moment could define their season — and it was the hosts who seized it.
Namibian playmaker Petrus Shitembi proved to be the match-winner, producing a moment of brilliance in the 31st minute.
The 33-year-old unleashed a thunderous long-range strike that beat Kalamullah Al-Hafiz, capping off a fluid attacking move and handing Kuching City the decisive advantage.
The match turned further in the hosts’ favour when Safuwan Baharudin was sent off following a VAR review for denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity.
Selangor’s situation worsened when Mukhairi Ajmal was also dismissed for a reckless challenge, leaving the visitors with just nine players on the pitch.
Despite their numerical advantage, Kuching City were unable to extend their lead — but crucially, they maintained control to see out the victory.
Under head coach Aidil Sharin, Kuching City displayed composure and maturity, managing the game effectively after taking the lead.
The match ended with the victory of Kuching City 1-0, and the victory was sealed by Kuching City with a 2-1 aggregate triumph, sending “The Cats” into dreamland and igniting celebrations across Kuching.
