Malaysia’s rising men’s doubles pair Kang Khai Xing and Aaron Tai saw their impressive run at the YONEX Swiss Open 2026 come to an end after falling in the quarter-finals to Denmark’s experienced duo Daniel Lundgaard and Mads Vestergaard on Friday.
Competing at the Basel tournament, the young Malaysian pair went down 19-21, 15-21 to the seventh seeds in a match lasting 37 minutes.
Despite the defeat, their run to the last eight is widely viewed as another encouraging sign of progress for one of Malaysia’s most promising young partnerships on the international badminton stage.
Khai Xing and Aaron showed resilience throughout the opening game, matching the Danish pair point for point and keeping the contest finely balanced.
However, the experience of Lundgaard and Vestergaard proved decisive in the closing stages as the Danish duo edged ahead to secure the first game 21-19.
The Malaysians continued to battle early in the second game but struggled to maintain momentum as the more seasoned Danish pair began to dictate the pace of play.
Capitalising on a series of unforced errors from the Malaysian duo, Lundgaard and Vestergaard gradually stretched their lead before sealing the match 21-15.
The defeat also marked the end of Malaysia’s campaign in the men’s doubles event, with Khai Xing and Aaron serving as the nation’s final representatives in the discipline.
Earlier in the tournament, the pair had grabbed attention by producing a standout performance to defeat Indonesian combination Leo Rolly Carnando and Bagas Maulana in the second round after a hard-fought encounter.
That result further underlined the growing reputation of the Malaysian youngsters as a pair capable of challenging higher-ranked opponents.
