Malaysian Muay Thai prodigy Johan “Jojo” Ghazali has spoken out for the first time since his defeat to Diego Paez at ONE Fight Night 32 last Saturday. In a raw and emotional post on Instagram, the 18-year-old didn’t hold back — addressing not just the loss, but the flood of hate from his own countrymen.
“To the haters from Malaysia… you’re the reason our country can’t move forward.”
In a scathing critique of toxic fan culture, Johan lashed out at the wave of ridicule he received post-defeat, calling it “embarrassing” and “a reflection of a rotten mentality.”
Johan detailed the physical and financial sacrifices he’s made in pursuit of sporting excellence, including funding his own training camps.
“I woke up this morning barely able to walk. My legs hurt, my head’s pounding. I paid for my own preparations just to make sure I was in peak condition. But for what?”
His comments revealed a painful sense of betrayal — not from his loss in the ring, but from the very people he fights to represent.
“My grandfather, Tan Sri Ghazali Che Mat, risked his life for this nation. My father served as a police officer for 25 years. All my siblings have represented Malaysia at the highest levels. But when I fall, that’s when people show their true colours.”
Labelled “arrogant” and “chasing fame” by critics, Johan responded defiantly:
“Say what you want — that I’m arrogant, that I’m chasing the spotlight. But don’t forget — it’s because I chased that spotlight that others started getting it too.”
Going forward, Johan declared that he would focus only on himself and those who genuinely support him.
“From now on, I’m done with trying to please everyone. I’ll do this for myself and those who truly have my back. Change this stupid mentality. Malaysia can do it — but the people are full of envy.”
Johan ended his statement with a powerful reminder to his critics:
“You think your words will break me? 😂 We’re not built the same. That’s why I’m the one fighting, and you’re just watching.”
The post has gone viral, drawing a mixed reaction. Some fans have rallied behind Johan, applauding his courage and calling for better support for national athletes. Others doubled down on their criticism, accusing him of being unable to handle defeat.
Regardless of public opinion, one thing is clear — Johan Ghazali is not backing down, and he’s sending a message far beyond the ropes of the ring.
