Datuk Stuart Ramalingam, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Malaysian Football League (MFL), did not rule out the possibility that Liga Super Malaysia 2024/25 will only be contested by 13 teams.
All this happened because of the financial issues that plagued some teams. Every year, there will be teams that experience financial problems, especially involving the payment of salaries.
“So if an issue arises, we (MFL) have to reduce to 13 teams (next season). If it has to happen, then it has to happen,” Stuart said with Bernama.
“KDA is not a ‘repeat offender’ , we give space to the team to solve this problem internally,”
This season (season 2023), Liga Super Malaysia, which was supposed to be held with a 16-team format, changed to 14 because Melaka United and Sarawak United were not granted club licensing due to the same issue and down to play in Liga M3(Amateur League) in this season.
